Pallets and wood packaging
ISPM 15 addresses pest risks from wood packaging used in international trade, including raw-wood pallets and dunnage. Its scope excludes packaging made wholly from processed materials such as plywood produced using glue, heat or pressure. A mixed-material pallet needs checking against its actual construction.
For regulated wood packaging, confirm the applicable treatment and authorised marking with the packaging provider and destination requirements with the importer. A pallet mark is not a product-quality certificate.

Pallet base
Inspect the pallet and prepare the base layer.
Check pallet condition and agree the base protection with the packing provider.
Carton packing
Position the fruit in protective trays.
The drawing shows a 5 kg single-layer apple carton. Confirm weight, fruit count and tray fit for your order.
Pallet stacking
Arrange cartons within the pallet footprint.
Agree the stacking pattern, height and load limits for the carton and shipment. The illustrated height is an example.
Corner protection
Protect the vertical edges of the load.
Match corner protectors to the stack and strapping arrangement.
Strapping
Secure the load without crushing the cartons.
Confirm band placement and tension for the selected packaging.
Stretch wrapping
Balance load stability with airflow.
Choose the wrap arrangement for the produce and cooling requirements; keep required ventilation paths clear.
Marks & weight
Check visible labels and record the packed weight.
